As is our annual tradition, we will be registering runners for the annual North Texas Walk for PKD 5k run at Southlake Town Center. This is a great organization in our community and they are always thankful for our support. Come bright and early to help set up the registration table and to be educated on the registration process. The run is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. and runners are expected to begin registration at 7:00 a.m. |

Alicia L Fleury with Hope Kindness & Community gave a great presentation on challenges facing our community and how HKC has been born to address the challenges. HKC’s mission is to bring hope and support to the youth of our community and their families through mental health awareness, education and peer mentoring to help prevent bullying and suicide while promoting healthy relationships. |
James R. Davis, Criminologist and former undercover law enforcement officer presented from his new book, "Decoy 24". His presentation included some snippets from the book and a whole bunch of color on crime from his long career. His book is available on Amazon, you won't be disappointed. |

Thanks so much to everyone for your donations. The silent auction raised $711! You guys are amazing! I went shopping ans we ended up with close to 70 toys overall! My lobby was completely full! We split the toys between Toys for Tots and the Roanoke Storehouse. They were so excited to hear of Rotary's generous donation. We have just completed a very busy year at Metroport Rotary Club, and are already
taking on new projects for 2010-11.
Our club has participated for five years in a joint project with the Denton Rotary Club
building a school, an outdoor kitchen, and four medical clinics in Chinendega, Nicaragua.
One of our members was honored to learn one of the medical clinics was dedicated
to her and is named "Deborah Dickey Clinic". We presented our project to several
Rotary Clubs, and had members from those clubs travel to Nicaragua with us to
help in the building process. We plan to continue our support of this project for many
years

Boasting of positive economic growth when the balance of the country faces trying economic times is an accomplishment to be proud of. On Friday, July 02, 2010, the Metroport Rotary, had the distinct pleasure of hearing of these many accomplishments of the city of Roanoke, from non other than City Manager, Jimmy Stathatos.

No star shone brighter than Karen Hewitt ( pictured right with Jim Reed, Past President), while accepting the office of President for 2010-2011, at the Metroport Rotary 2010-2011 Installation Banquet, held, June 23, 2010. From hors d'oeuvres to dessert, the Brio restaurant in Southlake, created an elegant atmosphere of celebration. The festivities included many thanks to those who have faithfully served throughout the 2009-2010 year. With a long and healthy list of accomplishments, each award was highly deserved.

Joe King, President and CEO of Kids Matter International, met with the Metroport
Rotary, to share the life changing projects of this Texas based charitable organization. Mr. King, recognized as a national leader in the areas of volunteer management, sports marketing, corporate fundraising, cause-related marketing, and government and public relations, has a long and distinguished career in non-profit management.
Mr. King explained that Kids Matter, founded in June of 2006, began when four men saw a need. Since its inception, they have funded a school within an orphanage in Guatemala. Through the efforts of Kids Matter, the school has the largest library in Guatemala. Due to innovative management techniques, it has been opened to the public as a private school charging tuition. The tuition of those students, allows the school operate as a self-sufficient entity.
Recognizing a domestic need as well, the name was changed to Kids Matter International. The Mission of this organization is:
To bring healing to orphaned, abandoned or disadvantaged children by providing an environment where they can grow stronger emotionally and physically. So that they may become healthy adults and productive citizens of their nations.
There motto is, " Whether around the world or around the Block... Kids Matter!!!"
Keeping this motto in mind, Kids Matter International supports projects including an orphanage in India. Recently they have began working with government officials to create a multi-purpose center on the Island of Roatan, Honduras, which will be a safe haven for young girls pulling them out of the life of sex trafficking. It is their desire to see these young girls protected, educated, and given the opportunity for a future.
The largest fund raiser for Kids Matter International is a Gala to be held on February 18, 2011. Tickets are available to attend this remarkable event and support this worthy cause. For more information e-mail

The new 2010-2011 slate of officers, including District Governor Paul Lucas ( pictured right), were sworn into office receiving a warm welcome, from a cheerful crowd, that gathered at the First United Methodist Church, Fort Worth, for the annual , Governor Installation Banquet, held June 26, 2010. El Limonal is located on the outskirts of the city of Chinandega, Nicaragua. The area is known as the triangle of death, because it is surrounded by the sewer system of Chinandega, the city dump and a large graveyard. It is septic and dangerous. We are helping the children that live in this area. In 2010, the funds raised from the sale of the pine needle baskets were used to build a feeding center in El Limonal that will feed over 200 children several days a week. With your donations and the guidance of our brothers and sisters in the Chinandega Rotary – we will fund a new kindergarden in El Limonal in 2011 . The Rotary Club of Chinandega, Nicaragua has decided to name the new medical clinic we helped build in the San Benito community of Chinandega this past March after Debbie Dickey! The Nicaraguan Rotary Team choose to honor Debbie for her considerable contributions of the heart to the people of Nicaragua. |

Our beautiful Nicaraguan friends have made these beautiful baskets to help support their families. Kathy Hunt brought 80 baskets home with her and they will be available to us for a donation of $25 or more. These are their stories. |
